Finchaven (Finschaffen or Finschhafen), New Guinea, where both Nat Kipner and Ossie Byrne were posted during WW2, though they didn’t meet until 1966. The map is from the collection of Capt. Ray Kaines, an Australian army doctor who was sent to New Guinea in 1942. After the war, Dr. Kaines ran a surgery in Hurstville at "Gladwyn", 96 Queens Road, a few blocks away from the St. Clair Recording Studio. "Gladwyn" now houses the Hurstville Local Studies Centre. |
