Young People in Public Spaces
Young people have the right to use public space and be treated with respect in the community. Young people often socialise in large groups and, when this is in a public space, issues can arise in relation to noise and access. Hurstville City Council has developed protocols to address these issues.
Council developed Public Space and Shopping Centre youth protocols through consultation with young people, police, community members, traders and shoppers. The protocols include guidelines on appropriate behaviour and emphasise the importance of community tolerance and acceptance.
