Sydney Central Regional Weeds Committee

Hurstville City Council is a member of the Sydney Central Regional Weeds Committee (SCRWC), which promotes a cooperative and coordinated approach to weed management in the region. 

There are 15 councils represented on the Committee, which includes local government areas between Georges River in the south, Sydney Harbour in the north, Randwick in the east, and Canterbury and Strathfield in the west. 

Weed management projects undertaken by the Committee include:

  • Ludwigia peruviana" - Primrose Willow - Leaf and flower detailpreparing regional weed plans for Alligator weed, Asthma weed, Bitou bush, Ludwigia, Pampas grass and Privet
  • distributing Sydney Region WEEDeck pocket guide for weed identification to committee members and agency staff
  • distributing Grow Me Instead booklet, on selecting plants for your garden
  • preparation of a 'Regional Weeds' brochure
  • group initiative to reduce Alligator weed and Ludwigia
  • Asthma weed education program.

SCRWC, which meets quarterly, is one of four regional weed management committees in greater Sydney. It also consults regularly with stakeholders including state and federal government agencies such as the NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change, Sydney Water Corporation, Roads and Traffic Authority, and RailCorp.
