The NSW and Australian governments have embarked on Australia’s largest transport infrastructure project, the 33km WestConnex motorway linking Sydney’s west and south-west with the city, airport and port. This project will ease congestion, create jobs and connect communities.

WestConnex Delivery Authority is investigating ground conditions for a new tunnel connecting St Peters to Beverly Hills and double the number of lanes on the M5 East. You may notice some geotechnical drilling activity in your local area in the coming weeks.  The work is needed to collect information on soil and rock conditions.

The work will take place between St Peters and Beverly Hills from September 2014 to early 2015, weather permitting.

All feasible and reasonable mitigation measures will be taken to minimise disturbance to local residents. Most work will take place between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday and between 8am and 1pm on Saturday.  However, in areas of significant traffic, some of the work may take place at night or on Sundays to ensure better safety when traffic volumes are lowest.

The drilling will generally take 1 to 5 days at each location. The work may involve some or all of the following activities:

• Drilling of small diameter boreholes. Equipment may include drilling rigs, vacuum truck, lighting towers, various hand tools and mechanical aids.
• Removing rock to take away for analysis.
• Installing water monitoring instruments in selected boreholes.
• Borehole imaging, which involves lowering a camera into drilled holes to record geological changes.

The work will generate intermittent noise for short periods.

If you have any questions regarding this work, please contact Faye Woodward on 1300 660 248 during office hours (8.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday).

Yours faithfully
