Calling local artists for 2013 exhibitions

8 Oct 2012

Are you a local artist or part of a local art group and would like to showcase your work to the community in 2013?

Mayor of Hurstville, Cr Jack Jacovou said Hurstville City Museum & Gallery may be the venue for you.

“We are currently accepting applications from local artists to exhibit in the Museum’s Dragon’s Lair Gallery,” he said.

“This is an exciting opportunity for local artists and groups to display their works at a venue that attracts over 10,000 visitors a year.”

Mayor Jacovou said over the years there have been exhibitions by locals from all walks of life.

“The youngest aspiring Picasso was six years old who along with her eight year old sister exhibited Colours, an exhibition exploding with colourful and imaginative artworks,” he said.

“We have also had exhibitions from children from Council’s childcare centres and preschools as well as high schools.

“Others include Bruce Sharp’s Painting En Plein Air, and exhibitions of artworks by mosaic artists and calligraphers.”

Mayor Jacovou said the Dragon’s Lair Gallery offers a professional gallery space of 18 running metres that is available for individual or group hire.

“It is very affordable with the cost being $50 for four weeks if you are not selling your artworks and $100 if you are,” he said.

“Whether you are an experienced exhibitor or thinking about displaying your works for the first time, our Museum & Gallery staff are happy to help and give advice.”

Applications close Friday 2 November 2012, at 4.00pm.
