27 Sep 2012

Hurstville City Council has a new mayor after Councillor Jack Jacovou was elected unopposed to lead the city at tonight’s Extraordinary Council meeting (26 September 2012).

Councillor Andrew Istephan was elected Deputy Mayor, also unopposed.

Mayor Jacovou said he was truly humbled to be elected to the position.

“I would like to thank my fellow Councillors for bestowing this great honour upon me and I will do my very best for the community.

“I will continue my duties as Chairman of the Traffic Advisory Committee and will strive to improve our traffic and parking conditions, particularly in the Hurstville CBD.

“My other priorities include enhancing the amenity of our local suburbs and freshening up Forest Road.”

Mayor Jacovou said that with the election now done and dusted, it was time to deliver on all the promises that were made to the community.

“I believe that the best way to fulfil and deliver on our pledges is for all of us to put party politics aside and to work as a team.

“I look forward to working closely with the Deputy Mayor and other Councillors over the next year to further improve Hurstville City.”

Councillor Andrew Istephan said he was proud to be elected as Deputy Mayor.

“I am committed to serving the people of Hurstville City,” he said.

“Our residents deserve the best and it is important that Council delivers projects to improve their everyday lives.

“I will actively work to provide the facilities and services that benefit our whole community.”
