Free Mulch Giveaway Day

5 Jun 2012

Mayor of Hurstville, Cr Steve McMahon is inviting residents to take advantage of Hurstville City Council’s free Mulch Giveaway Day this Saturday (9 June 2012).

Mayor McMahon said over the past 12 months, Council has accumulated a large amount of mulch from tree pruning and associated works within the local government area.

“Mulching your garden has many environmental and aesthetic benefits, including protecting plants’ root systems and adding much-needed nutrients to the soil,” he said.

“It also helps prevent weeds and retain moisture, so that you will spend less time maintaining your garden and more time enjoying it.”

Mayor McMahon said mulching is a natural form of recycling where nothing is wasted and your garden is replenished.

“The end result is your garden will look greener and healthier,” he said.

“I encourage all residents to take advantage of this free giveaway to not only help the environment but to improve the appearance of your front and back gardens.”

Residents will be able to obtain free mulch subject to:
• Providing a current Hurstville City Council rates notices (or equivalent proof of residence);
• Domestic use only; and
• Only one utility vehicle or suitable trailer load per residence

The free mulch giveaway will be held at Council’s Works Depot, entry via Depot Road, Peakhurst on Saturday, 9 June 2012 between 8.00am and 3.00pm.
