Georges River Council unveils new Carss Park Playground

9 Nov 2016

On Friday 4 November 2016, Georges River Council reopened the Carss Bush Park Playground in Carss Park following a major upgrade of the site.

Administrator of Georges River Council, John Rayner, said the new playground cost $650,000 and was funded solely by Council.

“I am pleased to see this new playground completed which was designed with increased accessibility so that children of all ages and abilities can use and enjoy this facility,” he said.

“The playground consists of new equipment, a new pathway around the site, additional seating and new plants which complement the area.

“There have also been extensions made to the junior play areas of the playground which will provide more activities for young children to explore.”

Mr Rayner said the natural surroundings of Carss Bush Park inspired the designers of the playground to incorporate more natural looking structures made from seasoned Australian hardwood, sustainably sourced, and crafted by artists.

“The design of the new playground has also retained some of the existing equipment from the original playground including the liberty swing, shade sails and fenced toddler area,” he said.

“The popular ramps and deck have been modified and renewed into a more usable play structure.”

The playground was designed by UmbaCo Landscape Architects and construction was undertaken by BNS Landscapes.

As part of the new playground, Georges River Council’s Community Development Officers undertook a community art project with local children to have patterns painted onto the shade poles around the playground.
