Georges River Council receives first quarterly Financial Assistance Grant

6 Oct 2016

Georges River Council has received its first quarterly Financial Assistance Grant from the NSW Local Grants Commission for the 2016/2017 financial year.

Each quarter over the current financial year, Georges River Council will receive grants totalling more than $990,000.

This will mean over $3.9 million in funding will be provided to Council throughout the year which will greatly assist in a number of local projects, and the delivery of services to residents.

Of the funding Council will receive, $1.5 million will be allocated to park operations and maintenance while $900,000 will be used for building maintenance and $500,000 will be used for library services.

Council will also be allocating $1 million to fund road operations which will include the cleaning, maintaining and repairing of streets across the local government area.

Due to the merger of the former Hurstville and Kogarah City Councils in May this year, Council will receive the total amount of funding that would have otherwise been allocated between the two former entities.

Funding is allocated to all Councils across the state by the NSW Local Grants Commission each financial year, under the Commonwealth Local Government (Financial Assistance) Act 1995.

The Commission evaluates each Council across NSW and determines how much it will receive for the year.
