Remediation of contaminated land

There are many ways that the requirement to remediate potentially contaminated land are triggered, but the main triggers are:

1. Application to rezone land
2. Rezoning of land under a new or amended LEP
3. Development Application
4. Voluntary remediation
5. Environmental Protection Authority Orders

The remediation of land is generally regulated under the: 

• Contaminated Land Management Act 1997 No 140
• State Environmental Planning Policy No 55—Remediation of Land

• Managing Land Contamination: Planning Guidelines - SEPP 55 Remediation of Land
