Local Species Lists

The planting lists provided here have been prepared as a guide for residents or landscapers interested in using plants local to the Hurstville area.  The lists are separated according to preferred soil type, however many of the plants listed will grow successfully in most locations.

Sandstone soils are typical of the ridges and slopes of the foreshore areas around Oatley, Peakhurst and Lugarno.  Clay and shale based soils are found on the elevated, flatter areas such as Hurstville, Beverly Hills, Mortdale, Penshurst, Narwee and Riverwood.
