Indian Myna Birds
Indian Myna birds are an introduced species which threatens native wildlife by taking over native bird's nests and preying on their young.
You can help limit the spread of this species in your own backyard by reducing opportunities for feeding and breeding. Limit feeding sources by:
- composting food scraps
- covering or moving pet food that is exposed to birds during the day such as dog and cat biscuits
-
plant native species in your gardens to encourage native birds into the area (Indian Mynas prefer exotic vegetation)
-
chat to your neighbours, friends and family to raise community awareness about the problems associated with Indian Mynas
-
identify and patch up holes and other potential nesting spots around your house and carport.
In addition, do not leave food scraps in parks, public places, or on road sides as this encourage the spread of Indian Mynas.
