Illegal Dumping

Illegal dumping of unwanted household items is a significant financial, environmental and social problem. Hurstville City Council incurs considerable costs every year for the investigation, collection and disposal of illegally dumped material. Dumped rubbish can degrade the environment, cause health hazards and lower property values if areas become less attractive to prospective landowners.

Illegal dumping is a criminal offence under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 and significant fines apply to those caught dumping. Council's Environmental Compliance Officers are vigilant in investigating illegal dumping and are currently targeting areas with multi-unit blocks.

The new On Call Clean Up service is an initiative by Hurstville City Council to help reduce the incidence of illegal dumping in residential areas. Council is also a supporter of the State Government initiative "Dumping. It's Dumb". Council has a range of materials available for residents to help target illegal dumping including bin bay signage and educational posters. For more information please call Council's Waste projects Officer on 9330 6222.

To report illegal dumping please complete this online form After-Hours-Service-Request or call Council on 9330 6222 and hold for an operator.
