Hurstville Access Committee

The Hurstville City Access Committee works to challenge and remove barriers that prevent people participating fully in community life. Its members include people with disability, organisations representing people with disability, Councillors and other community representatives.

The Committee:

  • provides a forum for raising issues of concern about access
  • examines and audits access in Hurstville
  • develops Council access policies and monitors their implementation
  • ensures Council considers access to, and within buildings with all Development and Building Applications affecting the public and conducts site inspections
  • informs and educates Council and the general public about access issues
  • advocates for better access at all levels of government.

The Committee was established in December 1993 following a public meeting convened by Hurstville City Council. Meetings are held bi-monthly.

The Committee has developed a Services Action Plan and Building and Facilities Action Plan for Council, in accordance with the Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
