Dog Exercise Areas
Hurstville City Council provides spaces in Riverwood and lower Gannons parks for pet owners to exercise their dogs off-the-leash.
At Riverwood Park, the off-leash areas is accessed via Coleridge Street and is enclosed by a fence, and at Gannons Park, access is via Vale Lane, Peakhurst. Council asks dog walkers to respect a number of conditions when using these areas, to ensure community safety and harmony.
Respect shared space
Leash-free areas are for the enjoyment of all, and not for the exclusive use of dogs and their owners. Please be considerate of people who may be sharing the area with you and your pet, or using the park after you leave.
Maintain control
It is important that your dog remains under your effective control for the entire time it is off-the-leash. This means your dog should respond to your command and remains close to you. If your dog is not sufficiently trained to obey you at all times, it is recommended you do not allow it off-leash. On the spot fines apply when dogs are off-leash and not under effective control.
Dispose of dog droppings
Please make sure you always have the necessary equipment to pick up and dispose of your dog’s droppings. An on the spot fine applies if you fail to remove them in a public place.
