Community Safety

Hurstville City Council is committed to maintaining safe and pleasant community spaces for residents and visitors. While crime rates for Hurstville City are generally below average, compared to the Sydney metropolitan region, community consultation indicates that some people in the community still feel unsafe.

Council's Hurstville Community Safety Committee meets regularly to devise strategies that respond to community safety concerns. The Committee, which includes Councillors, Council staff and community members takes a number of measures to ensure community members feel safe in our City, including:

  • local safety audits
  • street lighting assessments
  • community surveys, forums and safety expos
  • City Crime and Safety Profile, Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan and Home Safety brochure.
Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan

Council's Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan identifies crime and safety issues in Hurstville City and promotes continuous improvement of local crime and safety services and programs. Key safety issues outlined in the Plan include:

  • personal violence
  • anti-social behaviour in public spaces
  • theft.
