St George Community Recycling Centre
Council is progressing well with plans to build a new Community Recycling Centre in Depot Road, Mortdale. An Environmental Impact Statement is currently being prepared as part of the development application process to ensure the facility meets all the environmental and regulatory requirements.
The recycling centre is being funded through a grant received under the NSW Government’s Waste Less, Recycle More
initiative to target household problem wastes including:
- Paint (water based, oil based, and other paint types)
- Oil (motor oil and other types of oil)
- Batteries (lead-acid automotive batteries and other types of batteries used by households)
- Gas cylinders (domestic use cylinders e.g. LPG)
- Fluorescent lamps and conventional tubes
- Smoke detectors
- Fire extinguishers
- Electronic Waste
The St George Community Recycling Centre is designed to receive and temporarily store these items in specially designed receptacles until they are collected for recycling. The hours of operation for the recycling centre will be Monday to Friday 8.00am to 3.00pm and Saturdays 8:00am to 12:00pm. The facility will be closed on Sundays and public holidays. This Site Plan (519.75kB) gives an overview of the design of the facility.
This facility will be part of the network of Community Recycling Centres established throughout NSW by the Environment Protection Agency (EPA). For more information on the Community Recycling Centre program visit the EPA website.
The completed Environmental Impact Statement and Development Application will be on public exhibition in the coming months. Council will be encouraging the community to provide further feedback on this document once it is finalised.
