Clean Up Australia Day

Hurstville City Council joins with the local community to participate in Clean Up Australia Day every year. This is now the nation's largest community-based environmental event.

2012 Clean Up Australia Events

  • Business Clean Up Day - Tuesday 28 February
  • Schools Clean Up Day - Friday 2 March
  • Clean Up Australia Day - Sunday 4 March

Now is the time to register a laneway, park, bushland area, or waterway in the Hurstville Local Government Area.

To register a site and become a site coordinator or participate as a volunteer on the day visit www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au or phone 1800 282 329.

More than 200 bags of rubbish are usually removed from in and around the Georges River foreshore, various bushland areas and Hurstville CBD.

Hurstville Council will be providing a FREE BBQ for all volunteers on the day at The Castle in Oatley Park.

How to Register a Clean Up Site

    Choosing a Site

  • Select a site in your local area you think needs a clean up.
  • You must register your site at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au and selecting the link "Create a Clean Up Site"
  • Follow the steps to register your clean up site. Each site must have a nominated Site Manager/Supervisor to organise the site on the day.
  • Hurstville City Council provides a pick up service of all rubbish bags collected on the day. Please be sure to indicate your nominated rubbish collection point on your site registration.
  • Cut off date for registration of clean up sites is two (2) weeks prior to the event.

   Receiving your Clean Up Kit

  • All registered sites receive a Clean UP Kit which contains 20 bags (10 white and 10 yellow), 5 parks of gloves, sharps containers (if requested), hand sanitizer and a variety of other related material. Additional materials are available. Go to www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/about/resource-centre/kits for more information.
  • Please allow two (2) weeks for delivery of your kit.
  • Please contact Clean Up Australia Day on 1800 282 329 if you have not received your kit prior to the event.

   Promote your Clean Up Site

  • Promotional material is included in your Clean Up Kit. Further information on how to promote your site within your local community is available at www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au
  • Husrtville City Council will also update our website with a current list of registered sites.

How to Volunteer at a Registered Site

  •  If you would like to volunteer at a site that is already registered in your area simply go to www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au and select the "Join a Clean Up Site".
  • You can also register on the day at any site

  • Kempt Field Park - Forest St, Hurstville
  • Ogilvy Street Reserve - Peakhurst
  • Penshurst - meeting place outside Post Office
  • Banksia Creek - meeting place on Georges River access via stairs in Banksia Place
  • Oatley Park - meeting place in Steam Roller Park & The Castle
  • Lower Gannons Park - meeting place in Vale Lane (off Robyn St)
  • Harvey Dixon Reserve - meeting place at the park entrance in Hymen St
