Acts & Regulations

The central laws controlling and regulating building and development in NSW are the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 and the Environmental Planning and Assessment Regulatiom 2000.

Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979

State Environmental Planning Policies, Local Environmental Plans and Development Control Plans are developed under the provisions in Part 3 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act (the Act).

Part 4 and Part 4A of the Act sets out the process that must be followed to receive approval for building and development works.

Part 6 of the Act sets out the Council's Enforcement functions and powers.
