Activities and Events

Hurstville City Council engages residents from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds in community life by hosting and supporting a range of activities and events throughout the year, including:

Information Open Days

Information Open Days provide opportunities for residents from culturally and linguistically diverse communities to learn more about Council's services, roles and responsibilities. Guests also get the chance to meet Councillors and Council staff and ask questions about Council. Open Days include a tour of Council's service departments. Interpreting and child minding services are available on request.

Community consultation

Community consultations are conducted regularly to gain a broad understanding of the issues and needs of Hurstville City's diverse cultural groups. These consultations give Council an opportunity to listen to suggestions for improvements and ideas for new initiatives, and receive feedback on our programs and services.

Harmony Day

Harmony Day is acknowledged across the country on 21 March each year. Council celebrates this event by hosting events and activities that promote respect, inclusion and a sense of belonging. Harmony Day events are an opportunity for the whole community to unite in celebration of harmony, participation and cultural diversity.

Women’s Interfaith Network

Council supports the the St George Women’s Interfaith Network, which was established in 2005 to demonstrate that people of different faiths and cultures can live in peace. The network promotes peace and harmony, meets monthly and includes members from the Buddhist, Baha’i, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish and Sikh faiths.

Migrant Information Day

Council supports a Migrant Information Day which is held each October by the St George Multicultural Network Interagency. This event provides newly arrived migrants and refugees in the St George region with information on services, facilities and support groups and includes a celebration of multicultural food and music.
