Aboriginal Services

Hurstville City Council acknowledges the Biddegal clan of the Eora nation as the traditional owners of the land encompassing Hurstville City and recognises the rights of Indigenous Australians to live according to their own values and culture.

The Aboriginal community forms an important part of Hurstville City’s cultural and spiritual mosaic and enriches the diversity of the area. In the 2006 census,  363 people living in Hurstville City identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders.

The Committee meets bi-monthly on the first Monday of the month.

Statement of Commitment

Council signed a Statement of Commitment in 2005 to build closer links with Aboriginal community members and organisations and working towards reconciliation and rights in partnership. It also commits Council to preserving, protecting and promoting Aboriginal culture and heritage.
